Shaping the Future of Racing: How Porsche Motorsport and NetApp Forge a Winning Partnership

In an exciting development for the world of motorsports, NetApp® has expanded its relationship with Porsche Motorsport, becoming the exclusive Intelligent Data Infrastructure partner. This strategic partnership is set to boost performance both on and off the track by leveraging advanced data management technologies. José Manuel Petisco, Vice President for EEMI (Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa, Spain, Portugal, and Latin America) at NetApp, shared insights on this collaboration.

NetApp was chosen as Porsche Motorsport’s exclusive intelligent data infrastructure partner due to its proven ability to deliver innovative data management solutions and its expertise in handling large volumes of data”, says Petisco.

The reliability and scalability of NetApp’s infrastructure played a significant role in this decision. Porsche Motorsport needed a partner capable of providing real-time access to data and enabling data-driven decision-making, and NetApp fit the bill perfectly.

NetApp’s technology enhances Porsche Motorsport’s performance by providing real-time access to critical data, enabling informed decision-making.

“For instance, the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has already benefited from NetApp’s intelligent data infrastructure, providing them with the data needed for race strategy, supporting decision-making, and improving outcomes,” adds Petisco.

With the expanded partnership, Team Porsche Penske Motorsport will leverage NetApp technology to make similar complex decisions in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWSC) and the World Endurance Championship (WEC).

NetApp brings several key solutions to this partnership. Cloud Volumes ONTAP creates a consistent storage experience across Porsche Motorsport’s hybrid cloud environment, allowing data to be consolidated in the cloud and accessed from anywhere. The BlueXP software provides a single control pane for managing data across the hybrid cloud, enabling real-time trackside decision-making through local copies of datasets. Additionally, Cloud Backup ensures high availability and cyber resiliency, protecting the extensive investment Porsche Motorsport has made in creating its data.

NetApp plans to manage and analyze the vast amounts of data generated by Porsche Motorsport through its market-leading capabilities. This includes real-time access to data via its intelligent data infrastructure, which allows the team to make data-driven decisions and optimize performance. Solutions like Cloud Volumes ONTAP, BlueXP, and Cloud Backup are integral in handling, protecting, and ensuring the reliability and availability of the data.

The long-term goals of this partnership include continuously improving data management capabilities, enhancing performance on and off the track, and driving innovation in the motorsport industry. “NetApp envisions a future where intelligent data infrastructure becomes even more critical, enabling motorsport teams to access and analyze data in real-time, make predictive decisions, and gain a competitive edge through data-driven insights and optimizations. Expanding the partnership to include the IWSC and WEC events in North America demonstrates Porsche Motorsport’s confidence in NetApp’s ability to deliver reliable and speedy data solutions, regardless of location,” adds Petisco.

NetApp’s collaboration with Porsche Motorsport underscores the transformative power of data in high-performance sports.

“As we look to the future, this partnership exemplifies the potential of technology in transforming traditional practices and driving innovation,” concluded Petisco. With NetApp’s intelligent data infrastructure, Porsche Motorsport is poised to continue its legacy of excellence, harnessing the power of data to stay ahead of the competition.
