With Eid Al Fitr celebrations just around the corner, the UAE has officially announced the holiday dates for the public sector.
Federal government employees will be off from 1st to 3rd Shawwal 1446 AH, with work resuming on 4th Shawwal.
The UAE has also declared day 30 (Sunday March 30) of Ramadan a public holiday if Ramadan lasts 30 days, which means that the Eid Al Fitr would be extended by one day. This will only be determined by official moon sighting committee announcements.
The announcement stated: “The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) today issued a circular announcing that the Eid Al-Fitr holiday for the federal government sector will be observed from 1st to 3rd Shawwal 1446 AH, with official work resuming on 4th Shawwal.
So what does this mean in Gregorian calendar terms?
- If Ramadan is a 29-day month, the Eid Al Fitr break is likely to be from Sunday March 30 to Tuesday April 1 2025.
- If Ramadan is a 30-day month, the Eid Al Fitr break is likely to be from Monday March 31 to Wednesday April 2 2025.
The duration of Ramadan, which dictates the Eid Al Fitr break, will only be confirmed after the moon sighting committee meets. This is likely to happen on Friday March 28, so stay tuned.
