A 3D-printed mosque is coming to Dubai in 2026

The first-ever 3D-printed mosque in the UAE is coming soon, it has been revealed.

Plans for the 2,000-square-metre mosque were first announced back in 2023 by the emirate’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department.

And now IACAD has issued a major update on the big development.

The 3D-printed mosque is scheduled to be opened by the second quarter of 2026 and will have a total capacity of 499 worshippers at a time.

The printing will be conducted by three specialists and will be completed using a raw materials and a concrete mix.

The self-sustaining mosque will be built at a cost of Dhs18 million and the latest update was announced alongside plans for expansion of mosques in Dubai.

Dubai will welcome a further 55 new mosques in the near future at a cost of Dhs475 million.

These new mosques will have a total capacity of 40,961 worshippers and a further 54 new plots of land has been set aside for future mosque construction.

In 2024, 24 new mosques were built at a cost of Dhs172 million with a total capacity of 13,911 worshippers.

IACAD also confirmed plans for sermons to be translated into English in 70 percent of the city’s mosques.

Dubai has been ramping up the sustainability of its mosques by improving the energy efficiency of the buildings.

In 2024, the city’s mosques witnessed a five percent reduction in their carbon footprint and improved energy efficiency by installing air quality measurement devices.

Mohammed Ali bin Zayed Al-Falasi, Executive Director of the Mosque Affairs Sector, said that he hopes the environmental practices can lead the way.

He said: “We work with a clear vision to implement environmentally friendly strategic projects that combine technological advancement with the preservation of authentic Islamic values, ensuring that Dubai’s mosques remain a model to be followed worldwide.”

The IACAD plans have come ahead of the start of Ramadan in Dubai which is predicted to begin on Saturday March 1 according to the moon-sightings.

Ramadan is an annual month of fasting, worship, service and community gathering in the Islamic lunar calendar.
