The UAE has just come out of one of its wettest spells in recent months. While conditions have now stabilised, forecasters say more rain is on the way. This time, however, it is expected to be far less intense.
Here is what residents need to know, from rainfall timelines to areas likely to be affected.
Authorities have confirmed that the recent weather system has ended and conditions have stabilised across the UAE. However, another, weaker system is expected early next week, followed by a fresh chance of rain from midweek.
When will it rain again in the UAE?
Here is the official National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecast for:
- March 31: Partly cloudy to cloudy at times with a chance of light to moderate rainfall over scattered areas.
- April 1: Partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with a chance of light to moderate rainfall over scattered areas, with a decrease in temperatures especially westward.
“Most of the rainfall will be light to moderate,” NCM expert Dr Ahmad Habib told Khaleej Times in an interview. “There could be some heavier rain, but only in very localised areas.”
Will it be as intense as the recent storm?
No. According to the NCM, the upcoming system will be significantly weaker, with lower moisture levels and less severe conditions.
Which areas are likely to be affected the most?
- Southern inland regions
- Areas around Al Ain
- Some internal parts of the country
Will temperatures change?
Yes, a noticeable drop in temperatures is expected, especially in western parts of the country, with cooler conditions continuing into midweek.
Will there be strong winds or rough seas?
Winds may freshen at times, reaching up to 40-45kmph, potentially causing dust and reduced visibility. Sea conditions are expected to be rough to very rough, especially in the Arabian Gulf.
Is there any need for concern or special precautions?
Authorities say there is no need for heightened concern at this stage, given the weaker nature of the system.
What happens after the rain?
The NCM has not forecast any rains for April 2, with cooler weather continuing. There is also a chance of fog or mist formation in coastal and internal areas during early morning hours.
