Sharjah Introduces New Leave Policy for Government Employees

Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, has approved a new leave policy aimed at supporting female government employees. Known as “Care Leave,” the policy applies to women who give birth to children with serious health conditions, such as illness or disabilities that require ongoing care. The leave is granted after the completion of maternity leave and can be extended upon approval from the relevant authority.

Positive Changes for Employees

This policy was announced by Abdullah Ibrahim Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Human Resources, during a phone call on the “Direct Line” programme, which was broadcast on Sharjah Radio and Television. The policy provides a much-needed solution to female employees, allowing them to balance family and work responsibilities without the added pressure of choosing between the two. It ensures that employees are given ample time to care for their sick or disabled children without worrying about work commitments.

Amendments to Job Grades Reflect Commitment to Employees

In addition to the “Care Leave” policy, Sheikh Dr. Sultan also approved amendments to the job grade structure in the Sharjah government earlier in April. These changes include the addition of new grades, specifically Special A and Special B, as well as a unique grade for engineers. To enhance fairness and efficiency, the service duration required for each grade has been set at four years.

These adjustments are part of Sheikh Dr. Sultan’s broader commitment to improving the quality of life for government employees. The aim is to recognize employees’ contributions, motivate them, and create a supportive and distinguished work environment. By making these changes, Sharjah’s government continues to prioritize the well-being of its workforce, ensuring that employees feel valued and empowered in their roles.
