New Dubai bridge will help cut travel time from 104 to 16 minutes

The RTA has announced the opening of a brand new bridge as part of the Al Shindagha Corridor redevelopment.

Designed to help cut travel time along the corridor by 88 minutes, the new bridge opening means the project is now 90 percent complete — so you’ll soon be saying hello to very quick commute times.

Easing traffic flow, the bridge will serve traffic coming from the Infinity Bridge via Al Mina Street,  towards the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Street with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street.

Spanning a total of 1,210 metres, the three-lane stretch can carry up to 4,800 vehicles per hour.

In total the Al Shindagha Corridor redevelopment project covers a length of 4.8 kilometres, with a total of five new bridges to be constructed.

Speaking about the project, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA said there are only two bridges left to be completed.

He added: “The RTA has completed 90 percent of the total works of phase five of the project, and will open the other two bridges in the second quarter of this year.

“The first bridge is 780 metres long, has three lanes and a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. It serves the traffic coming from Infinity Bridge via Al Mina Street heading to Al Wasl Street.

“The second bridge is 985 metres long, has two lanes and a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. It serves the traffic coming from Jumeirah Street heading to Al Mina Street and Al Saqr Interchange.”

In January, the RTA unveiled that the second bridge had been completed – a 605-metre, two-lane bridge on Sheikh Rashid Road.

Spanning between Al Mina Street and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, is designed to handle 3,200 cars per hour, easing traffic congestion and improving overall flow.
