Four teams remain in the hunt as DP World ILT20 Development Tournament Reaches Semi-Final Stage
The fourth edition of the DP World ILT20 Development Tournament enters the knockout stage with Gulf Giants Development, Sharjah Warriorz Development, Desert Vipers Development and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders Development securing their places in the semi-finals. Gulf Giants Development will face Abu Dhabi Knight Riders Development in the first semi-final at 5pm, before Sharjah Warriorz Development take on Desert Vipers Development at 9pm later today, with both matches set to be played at the ICC Academy in Dubai.
Defending champions Sharjah Warriorz Development sealed their semi-final berth with a commanding 59-run win over Abu Dhabi Knight Riders Development in Tuesday’s late fixture.
Batting first, the Warriorz powered their way to 209/6 buoyed by half-centuries from Ronak Panoly (67 off 37) and Harpreet Bhatia (55 off 40) at the top of the order. Falak Noor dismissed both batters and emerged as the pick of the Knight Riders’ bowlers with 3/35.
In reply, Uzair Khan’s 36 off 18 balls was the top score for the Knight Riders, but the chase never got going as Dhruv Parashar (4/24) and Basil Hameed (2/22) ran through the middle and lower order to bowl the side out for 150 in 17.5 overs.
Earlier in the day, Gulf Giants Development secured a six-wicket win over MI Emirates Development.
Put in first, MI Emirates were carried by KS Bharat (56 off 41) and an explosive Vishnu Sukumaran, who plundered 76 off just 28 balls with two fours and nine sixes. The pair put on 46 for the fourth wicket, and Sukumaran added a further 38 with Aditya Shetty (18 off 13) as MI Emirates posted 188/7. Hazret Luqman (2/23) and Haider Razzaq (2/46) shared four wickets between them for the Giants.
In the second innings, Tanish Suri (35 off 13) gave the Giants a flying start, adding 57 for the first wicket with Anshh Taandon (25 off 19). Captain Adeeb Usmani top-scored with 40 off 32 balls and put on 57 for the third wicket with Sagar Kalyan (23off 20), before Junaid Shamsu’s unbeaten 39 off 15 balls, laced with two fours and four sixes, saw the Giants home in 18.5 overs.
Desert Vipers Development got their campaign back on track with a 61-run win over Dubai Capitals Development on Monday evening.
Batting first, the Vipers were given a rapid start by Israr Ahmad (26 off 8), but it was Vriitya Aravind who anchored the innings with a well-paced 70 off 48 balls, striking seven fours and three sixes. Aravind added 50 for the second wicket with Nilansh Keswani (26 off 18) and a further 69 for the third with Harshit Kaushik (35 off 24), lifting the Vipers to 191/9 despite a late wobble. Tahir Zaman registered yet another impressive performance for the Capitals with figures of 3/33.
In reply, the Capitals built an opening stand of 93 between Aryansh Sharma (25 off 21) and Khalid Shah, who struck a brisk 62 off 33 balls with six fours and four sixes. However, once Angad Nehru (3/16) and Khuzaima Tanveer (3/25) made the breakthroughs, the Capitals collapsed, losing 10 wickets for just 37 runs to be bowled out for 130 in 14 overs.
