Yes, you read that right – outdoor walkways with full air-conditioning.
Abu Dhabi is taking urban comfort to the next level with its first-ever climate-controlled pedestrian path – yep, the capital has no qualms about beating the heat in style.
The futuristic walkway, located in Al Nahyan near the Al Mamoura building, isn’t just about keeping cool – it’s a game-changer for city life.
It’s not just a glorified air-conditioned tunnel though. The walkway blends tech with aesthetics, allowing natural sunlight to filter through while keeping the cool air locked inside. And apart from getting from A to B walkers can also expect retail outlets, cafés and outdoor seating areas, which can all now be enjoyed no matter the season.
For those worried about noise pollution from the A/C and general city noise… not here. The walkway’s walls are fitted with advanced sound insulation so it will be super peaceful.
This is just the beginning too. The Department of Municipalities and Transport has bigger plans to integrate high-tech, climate-conscious features into more public spaces. Could fully air-conditioned streets be next?
