China To Open World’s Highest Bridge In June, Will Cut Travel Time From 1 Hour to 1 Minute

The bridge stands over 200 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower and weighs three times more, showcasing impressive engineering.

China is set to open the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in June, a 2-mile-long structure that will cut travel time from 1 hour to just 1 minute,  according to The Metro. The bridge, costing £216 million (Rs 2200 crore), stands over 200 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower and weighs three times more, showcasing impressive engineering.

Chinese politician Zhang Shenglin said, “This super project spanning the ‘Earth’s crack’ will showcase China’s engineering capabilities and boost Guizhou’s goal of becoming a world-class tourist destination.”

‘Its steel trusses weigh about 22,000 metric tonnes – the equivalent of three Eiffel Towers – and were installed in just two months.’

Chief Engineer Li Zhao said, “Witnessing my work become something tangible – watching the bridge grow day by day and finally stand tall above the canyon – gives me a profound sense of achievement and pride.”

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge will not only improve transportation in a rural area of China but also become a significant tourist draw, attracting visitors with its impressive engineering and stunning location.

According to The Metro, plans for living areas, a glass walkway and the ‘highest bungee jump’ in the world have also been unveiled by planners.

The bridge is a remarkable feat, suspended high above a major gorge. China’s bridge-building prowess is evident, with nearly half of the world’s 100 tallest bridges located in the region, aimed at connecting rural communities.

Notably, China’s highest bridge, built in Beipanjiang in 2016, stands at an impressive 1,854 feet tall.
