A Major New Bridge has Opened in Dubai as Part of Dhs700 Million Project

The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai has opened in Dubai as part of one of the city’s biggest road projects.

The RTA has announced that the Zabeel Palace Street Bridge, part of the Al Khail Road Improvement Project, is now open.

Making it easier to get to and from Jebel Ali, the three-lane bridge makes it easier for traffic to travel between Zaa’beel Palace Street and Oud Metha Road to Al Khail Road.

The bridge at Zabeel spans 700 metres and the RTA says will be able to accommodate 4,800 vehicles per hour.

A contract worth Dhs700 million was awarded by the authority earlier this year to start work on the Al Khail Improvement Project.

The whole project will see bridges spanning more than 3,000 metres constructed to make it easier to get between different points in the city.

The Zabeel Palace Street Bridge is the first to be completed as part of the plans.

Work will cover a 6,820-metre area along Al Khail Road which will include Zabeel, Meydan, Al Qouz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair and Jumeirah Village Circle.

The main aims of the project are to widen the existing road’s capacity, ease congestion and to make it easier for traffic to move freely.

Between Meydan Street and Ras Al Khor Street, a two-lane bridge stretching 610 metres supporting 3,200 vehicles per hour is being constructed.

At Al Quoz 1, at the intersections between Al Meydan Street and Al Waha Street, a 650-metre two-lane bridge also capable of supporting 3,200 vehicles per hour is being built. It will connect traffic between Al Meydan Road to Al Khail Road in the direction of Abu Dhabi.

Between Latifa Bint Hamdan Street and Al Meydan Street a 640-metre two-lane bridge supporting 3,200 vehicles per hour will be built.

At Jumeirah Village Circle, a two-lane bridge of 700 metres connecting Al Khail Road and Hessa Street is also planned.

In AlJaddaf, a new lane will be added on Al Khail Road to widen the surface and ease traffic flow to Deira.

And, finally, at Business Bay another lane will be added to Al Khail Road to improve the traffic flow into the area.

Earlier this year, a question was brought forward at the Federal National Council calling for a new road to be built to ease traffic in Dubai and the UAE.

The announcement was made on X (formerly Twitter) by the RTA and comes as a result of a directive from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of UAE, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The RTA awarded the contract under supervision from HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai.
