As part of its keenness to support national events with specialised expertise, and to keep pace with the most prominent developments and latest trends in the fields of advanced technology and AI, the ECSSR is participating, as a knowledge partner, in the Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) and Simulation and Training Exhibition (SimTEX).
The ECSSR’s participation is based on its interest in fields of AI and advanced sciences in its strategic plan, as well as the accelerating effects of IT revolution in various fields, including its impacts on research and strategic studies.
The ECSSR’s participation includes holding a series of strategic dialogues, to provide analytical insights on variety of scientific and research topics, such as sea, air, and land threats posed by unmanned systems, the challenges of autonomous weapon systems, the gap between unmanned systems and their governance frameworks, and the legal and ethical implications of using unmanned weapons.
A group of experts, academics, and specialists discuss these topics, including Dr. Tan Teck Boon, a research fellow at S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Dr. Fady Alnajjar, Associate Professor at the College of Information Technology at the United Arab Emirates University, and Dr. Max Cappuccio, deputy director of values in defence and security technology group at University of New South Wales, Australia, Mohamed Al Nuaimi, senior programme manager at the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments (ADASI), Dr. Olli Suorsa, assistant professor at Rabdan Academy.
Additionally, the ECSSR offers the exhibitions audience the chance to learn about its varied intellectual output by showcasing its research and scientific production as well as its latest books and strategic study publications through its innovative knowledge pavilion.
Abdulla Al Shatri, Director of the Military and Space Strategic Studies Department at the Advanced Sciences and Artificial Intelligence Sector of the ECSSR, stated that the centre’s main role is to prepare strategic analytical studies to support policymakers. Additionally, the sector is particularly focused on studying future technology trends, informing decision-makers about their opportunities and risks.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Shatri explained that the centre is showcasing several research products on the screens through its participation in the UMEX and SimTEX 2024 exhibitions. The centre’s pavilion also hosts strategic discussions featuring experts, academics, and industry representatives.
Remarkably, as part of its strategic partnership with the relevant institutions, the ECSSR has supported, as a knowledge partner, important national events such as COP28 and the Global Media Congress 2023.
