Sharjah Ruler Witnesses Major Addresses by Global Leaders at IGCF 2024

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, witnessed several inspiring keynote speeches at the opening of the 13th edition of the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2024).

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Media Council, were also in attendance.

The Forum opened with a speech by Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and Chairman of the UAE Media Council, focusing on the role of national media in fostering development and prosperity. He likened the national press to a symphony where different voices harmonise to reflect the nation’s identity and ambitions.

Sheikh Abdulla emphasised the importance of media in building cohesive and resilient communities. “Inspired by the Ruler of Sharjah’s belief that culture and civilisation protect society from violence and extremism, this forum is a crucial platform to keep pace with rapid technological advancements and new media. We work in the National Media Office, which follows the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and are designing a media system to uphold the strong status of the UAE in the world,” he said.

He also highlighted the UAE’s successful use of media during the COVID-19 pandemic to combat misinformation, build public trust, and improve government communication.

Looking ahead, Sheikh Abdulla urged continued use of the media as a force for good, aligning with the vision of UAE leadership to advance science, culture and prosperity.

Japanese economist Fumio Hayashi discussed Japan’s economic challenges, highlighting demographic changes as a key factor. He compared Japan’s situation with the UAE, noting the latter’s advantage due to its younger population.

British explorer Bear Grylls shared insights on resilience, emphasising the importance of learning from failure. He recounted his experiences, including overcoming challenges during his ascent of Mount Everest, driven by sheer willpower.

Chinese economist Prof. Justin Lin stressed the critical role of education in fostering innovation and reducing income inequality. He praised Sharjah’s focus on cultural tourism and education, highlighting the UAE’s significant investment in education as part of its economic diversification efforts.

Moroccan inventor Rachid El Yazmi discussed the importance of empowering Arab youth and fostering innovation. He showcased his work on lithium batteries, including fast-charging NLV batteries optimised for high-temperature environments.

Young inventor Ali Humaid Al Lougany shared his journey and demonstrated his “robotic doctor” invention, created to provide medical assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The IGCF 2024, held from September 4th to 5th at Expo Centre Sharjah, features over 250 speakers and experts leading discussions across 18 stages. The forum includes more than 160 activities, such as panel discussions, keynote speeches, workshops, and youth-focused initiatives, in collaboration with over 40 partners.
